Hemodialysis Unit

When Your Kidneys Fail

Your kidneys’ main function is to remove toxins and excess fluids and minerals from your blood. However, in case of kidney failure or chronic kidney disease, your kidneys will be unable to fulfil this role, leading to the accumulation of these waste products in your body, which can then cause severe health problems.

How Hemodialysis Works

When your kidneys fail, you need treatment to pick up their job. Hemodialysis, and other such dialysis, can help do so.
In hemodialysis, your blood passes, a few ounces at a time, through a tube and into a special filter, called a dialyzer.
The dialyzer has two parts—one for your blood and one for washing fluid called dialysate—separated by a thin membrane, through which waste products in the blood pass to then be washed away. Removing these wastes and extra salt and fluids helps keep safe levels of minerals and vitamins in your body.
Afterwards, the clean blood is returned to your body.

Can dialysis cure my kidney disease?

Usually, you go on dialysis when you have only 10% – 15% of your kidney function left. Dialysis may only be needed for a short time until your kidneys get better.
In case of kidney failure, your kidneys do not get better and you will permanently need dialysis until you undergo a kidney transplant.

Eye Laser Center

FATIMA EYE LASER CENTER

The Fatima Eye Laser Center is a recognised Carl Zeiss continuing medical education center for femtosecond laser refractive procedures for Southeast Asia. It is the only second installation of the latest Carl Zeiss Visumax Femtosecond Laser in the Philippines.

Fatima Eye Laser Center is the home court of the country’s expert Ophthalmologists, respected in the industry for their dedication and contribution to the field of eye laser surgery.

TYPES OF EYE LASER/REFRACTIVE PROCEDURES

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) uses an excimer laser. No blade is used. A laser beam photoablates directly to the cornea.
It is one of the safest procedures in refractive surgery. A minor discomfort for about 2 days can be felt as the corneal epithelium heals. The range of correction is up to 10 diopters.

Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK)

A thin flap is created using a microkeratome blade and the underlying bed is photo ablated with the laser. There is no post-operative discomfort. The range of correction is up to 7 diopters.

Femtosecond Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis (FEMTO-LASIK)

FEMTO-LASIK makes use of 2 lasers, a femtosecond laser and an excimer laser. No blade is used. The flap is created by the femtosecond laser and the underlying bed is photo ablated using the excimer laser. There is no possibility of a blade related complication, nor is there operative discomfort. The range of correction is up to 8 diopters.

Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE)

SMILE makes use of the femtosecond laser. No blade is used. No flap is created. A lenticular is created and extracted through small incision.

SMILE is the safest laser refractive procedure. It provides the most biochemically stable post-operative cornea. There is no post-operative discomfort. The range is about 10 diopters.

TOP REASONS WHY SMILE IS THE MOST ADVANCED LASER SURGERY PROCEDURE

FLAPLESS. The biochemical strength of the cornea is retained.

NO RISK. The risk of a flap displacement or other flap related complications is non-existent.

NO DRY EYES. Nerves for tear regulation are intact.

PAINLESS. It is the least invasive.

FAST AND PRECISE. You are in the hands of our expert Ophthalmologists who have done the procedure extensively.

RESULT IN 24 HOURS. See and feel the results within 24 hours. It is also stable over several years.
