On Duty 24 Hours | Fatima University Medical Center

Last night, the ER Department of Fatima University Medical Center (FUMC) celebrated its 15th year anniversary at the Luxent Hotel on Timog Avenue in Quezon City.

Dubbed as “QUINCE”, Dr. Roderick Vito, Training Officer of the department, gave the opening remarks while no other than the chairman, Dr. Raymund Ollero, refreshed the audience through the history of the department. He recalled when he and Dr. Joseph Aniciete, now the Assistant Chairman, had to formally jumpstart the emergency care on April 2002 and amusingly recounted he was to man the ER on April 15 and Dr. Aniciete on April 16. He also acknowledged the old nurses who are now successfully living and working abroad, recognized the staff who still remain in service, and encouraged the interns to whom he “hope[s] they find inspiration in what they are doing”.

With exciting raffle prizes drawn during the program, it was kept lively by the evening’s hosts, Dr. Harold Iturralde and Dr. Uzziel Romar Alonzo. With the passionate and emotive participation of the two lady songbird resident physicians, the night was punctuated with a point-of- view stand-up comedy performance by the marketing department’s Chris Bacula.

The event was graced by the presence of Doctors Vicente Jr. and Mary Anne Santos, Doctors Yvonne and Al Guevara, Doctors Mike and Mylene Abad Santos, Mr. Enrico and Dr. Carol Santos, and Dr. Caroline Santos-Enriquez.

Dr. Yvonne Santos-Guevara stretched the jubilation further when she exclaimed that there is “forever…, until retirement, the inspiration, and aspirations of the ER department continues to the new hospital” [in Antipolo City].

No less than the other admin and support staff of FUMC joined the 15 th year revelry of the ER department – the heroes at the forefront. Untiringly on duty, 24 hours.
